PITTSFORD, NY – A pair of University of Rochester men's track and field seniors,
Sean Hendricks and
Gabe Thyne, ended the indoor season in stellar fashion, netting All-America honors on day two of the 2024-25 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Nazareth University at the Golisano Training Center.
Hendricks, after using a tremendous, 27.68-second final lap to claim a spot in Saturday's final, scored his second First-Team All-America honor with a fifth-place finish in the mile final. The senior crossed the finish line with a new personal-best time of 4:10.30, moving up for seventh over the final three laps.
Hendricks started the mile final in fourth and dropped back to eighth over the first three laps, running a 32.01-second split over his fourth lap. The senior turned up the pace over the final four laps though, running a 30.65-second split on the second-to-last lap to pass two runners and move into fifth, before finishing the mile with a 29.74-second split, his fastest lap of the heat.
In the heptathlon, Thyne came into the day in 18th through the first four events but moved up seven spots over the course of the day's final three events to finish 11th and earn Second-Team All-America accolades. Thyne came into the day with 2,609 points in 18th place and finished the day in 11th place with 4,814 points, 14 points shy of his career high.

The senior set a pair of new personal bests over the final three heptathlon events and won the final event of the competition to secure a top-12 finish. Thyne opened day two of the competition with a 12th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, earning 877 points with his 8.77-second. Thyne then added another 12th-place result in the pole vault, setting a new high mark with a 3.80m height, good for 562 points.
Thyne then headed into the final leg of the competition in 15th but moved up four spots with an event win in the 1,000 meters, clocking in with a new PR of 2:42.47 seconds. The senior sat in second place for much of the first 800 meters, before making his final kick over the final 200, running a 30.77-second split over the final lap to win the heptathlon 1,000 meters and move up into 11th-place overall.
Elsewhere on the day,
Cole Goodman competed for UR in the triple jump, fouling on all three jump attempts.
As a team, Rochester scored four points to fifth in a tie for 45th overall, while Wisconsin-La Crosse took home the men's team title with 84 points, with Wisconsin-Oshkosh (39 points), Rowan (32 points), Lynchburg (29 points) and SUNY Cortland (26 points) rounding out the top five team finishers.
The Yellowjackets will be back in action when they kick off their outdoor season at RIT's Bill Q Invitational on Saturday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. in Henrietta, NY.
