HENRIETTA, NY – University of Rochester men's track and field senior
Jordan Johnson broke two school records en route to a pair of Liberty League titles to lead the Yellowjackets on day one of the 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by RIT at the RIT Track & Field Complex.
Johnson claimed Liberty League titles in both the hammer and javelin throw, breaking his own school record set earlier this year in the hammer throw, and a 37-year-old record in the javelin, set in 1988 by Fritz Repich. Johnson took first in the hammer with a meet, facility and school-record 61.16m toss, an All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) qualifier, and the fifth-best hammer throw in Division III this season.
While in the javelin, Johnson's 62.09m throw was also good for a meet, facility and school record, as well as an AARTFC qualifier, and currently ranks 14th in Division III.
Armaan Butler and
Kevin Fobare also scored for UR in the hammer throw, with Butler's throw of 49.38m good for fourth and an AARTFC qualifier, while Fobare came in sixth with a 48.23m toss. While in the javelin,
Zajans Crapo finished seventh, hitting a regional-qualifying mark with a 51.99m throw.
Elsewhere in the field events,
Cody Reeth set a new personal-best mark in the pole vault, finishing third with a 4.65m height, an AARTFC qualifier, while four 'Jackets earned top-eight marks in the long jump.
Cole Goodman led the quartet of Yellowjackets, winning the long jump and claiming UR's third Liberty League title of the day with a 7.05m leap, a facility record, an AARTFC qualifier and the 45th-best long jump in DIII so far this year.
Manny Eribo finished two spots behind Goodman in third place with a 6.74m leap, while
Sam Lorenzetti came in fifth at 6.59m, and
Aadit Jain placed seventh with a 6.47m jump.
In the two track finals on the day,
Nolan Goldthwaite and
Joe Berry both earned spots in the top eight of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while
Vishal Yalamanchili scored in the 10,000 meters.
Goldthwaite placed fourth in the steeplechase, clocking in at 9:48.25 seconds, and Berry set a new season-best time of 9:55.29 seconds, good for sixth.
In the 10,000 meters, Yalamanchili finished eighth, hitting the AARTFC qualifier mark with a time of 32:30.29.
In the sixth preliminary round events on the track, the Yellowjackets saw 10 student-athletes qualify for Saturday's finals.
Evan Bryant notched UR's first qualifier in the 400 meters, setting a new PR with his 49.82-second time, good for seventh.
In the 100 meters, both
William Stiska and
P.J. London earned spots in Saturday's 100-meter final, with Stiska placing sixth (10.864) and London crossing the finish line in eighth (10.88). Both London and Stiska's times were regional qualifiers, while Stiska's was also a season-best mark.
Three 'Jackets will race in Saturday's 800-meter final, after
Skye Crocker,
Brendan McCollum and
Sean Hendricks took fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the prelims. All three also notched AARTFC times with Crocker and McCollum setting new PRs. Crocker clocked in at 1:54.50 seconds, McCollum crossed the finish line in 1:54.82 seconds, and Hendricks finished the 800 meters in 1:55.36 seconds.
Next up in the 400-meter hurdles,
Owen Hatungimana led four qualifiers for Saturday's final, pacing the Yellowjackets with his fourth-place finish at 56.43-second time, a season-best mark.
Greg Palma took sixth, two spots behind Hatungimana with another season-best time, 57.05s, while
Mark Magyar came in seventh, crossing the finish line with a new personal-best time of 57.12 seconds, and
Elijah VanHoover came in eighth at 58.40 seconds.
VanHoover also paced the Yellowjackets in the first event of the day, the 110-meter hurdles, placing 11th with a time of 18.50 seconds. While in the day's final prelim, the 200 meters, London was UR's top finisher with a 22.19-second time and 12th-place result.
Through five events of the decathlon,
Gabe Thyne leads the 11-man field with 3,542 points, 210 points up RPI's Leo Lomangino in second place.
Ashton Tokarski sits in fourth place for UR with 3,185 points, while
Jack Maness is in fifth place with 2,974 points.
Thyne finished in the top three of all five events so far, taking first in the 100 meters (11.17s), high jump (1.85m) and 400 meters (49.65s), while placing third in the long jump (6.64m) and shot put (10.44m).
Tokarski's best finish came in the long jump, where the sophomore took second with a 6.64m leap, while Maness notched his best result in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line in third place with a time of 11.47 seconds.
Tokarski also added top-five results in the 100 meters (11.489s), high jump (1.73m) and 400 meters (53.43s), while Maness added a top-five finish in the long jump (6.17m).
Through six events, Rochester sits in second place in the team standings with 67 points, with RPI leading the field with 82 points. Host RIT rounds out the top-three teams with 60 points, while St. Lawrence sits in fourth place with 11 points.
Rochester will be back in action for day two of the 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Henrietta, NY, with the decathletes getting things started with the 110-meter hurdles at 10:30 a.m.
