University of Rochester men's tennis senior
Krish Vennam was recognized by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) as a Third-Team Academic All-American®, as announced by the CSC on Wednesday.
A five-time All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, Vennam capped off a stellar, four-year career with the Yellowjackets this season with All-UAA Second-Team Singles honors, compiling an 11-12 record in singles play, and 5-9 in doubles action this year. Vennam was UR's No. 1 player all season long and has been one of the program's top players since his first year on the River Campus.
"
Krish Vennam has achieved at the highest levels as a student-athlete at the University of Rochester," Head Tennis Coach
Matt Nielsen said, "His drive to succeed in the classroom and on the tennis court was second to none during his four years on the men's varsity tennis team. Krish consistently pushed himself to excel in fitness workouts and practice sessions, providing a great example to his teammates."
Vennam becomes just the sixth Academic All-American in men's tennis program history, and the first since Avinash Reddy earned First-Team At-Large honors in 2005.
UR's 2025 Peter DiPasquale Male Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, Vennam, won more than 70 matches over his four years with the Yellowjackets, earning regional rankings in both 2024 and 2025. The senior posted his best finish at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships this past fall, reaching the quarterfinals in singles play.
Vennam was also selected as one of UR's Lysle 'Spike' Garnish Scholar-Athletes this past fall, received recognition as a Provost Circle Scholar in 2024, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa this spring. A computational biology major with a minor in psychology, Vennam holds a 4.0 GPA and is a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree, a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, and will become a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete later this summer.
Throughout his time on the River Campus, Vennam served as a TA for multiple classes and did research in the Merigan Lab at URMC, as well as off campus as a research assistant at both Columbia and Yale. This fall, Vennam will attend medical school at the University of Connecticut.
The 2024-25 CSC Academic All-America® Men's Tennis Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes and are voted on by CSC members. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
