WILLIAMSPORT, NY – The University of Rochester golf team mounted a rally on the back nine holes and claimed victory at the Northeast Elite Invitational on Monday afternoon at Williamsport Country Club.
22nd-ranked Rochester entered the second and final day trailing first round leader McDaniel by eight shots and used a flurry of birdies over the final few holes to mount a comeback, eventually posting a one-stroke victory over runner-up Gettysburg College.
The Yellowjackets finished the event with a two-day score of 577 (9-over) as a team, while #19 Gettysburg ended at 578 and McDaniel scored 580. Overall, 16 teams competed at the event.
On Monday, sophomore
Alvin Su tied the University of Rochester single-round scoring record, signing for a 66 (5-under) on the par-71 layout at Williamsport C.C. Su ended as tournament medalist, shooting an overall score of 9-under 133 over the two days. He was the lone individual among 90 golfers to finish under par.
Su's second round score matches the 66's shot by Greg Perry in 1986, Chris Sladish in 1989 and Nick Palladino in 2013 as the lowest total score in team history. Only Palladino's round ended as a better score relative to par, at 6-under.

In his final round, Su started off with a par and bogey on his first two holes but was flawless the rest of the round, shooting six birdies the and ten pars over the final 16 holes. The sophomore's scorecard featured three straight birdies on holes five through seven and three more birdies in the final six holes.
Senior
Josh Pethel was the second-highest finishing Yellowjacket golfer, placing ninth overall in the field. After shooting an even-par 71 on Sunday, Pethel carded a 3-over round of 74 on Monday to reach his total score of 145. The senior was playing the event as an individual, with his score not counting towards Rochester's team total. Pethel ended up as the highest-ranking individual golfer in the field.
The rest of Rochester's starting five golfers all shot rounds of 75 or better on day two. Junior
Arjun Aujla shot a 73 (2-over), with sophomore
Galen Fowles and first-year
Anderson Palm carding 74's (3-over). Sophomore
Eddie Ren was one shot back on day two, shooting a 75 (4-over).
Overall on the leaderboard, Aujla finished tied for 13th at 146 for the event, with Fowles and Palm tying each other for 20th place with a 149 score. Ren improved by six shots on day two and moved up the leaderboard into 58th place overall with a 36-hole score of 156.
Rochester feasted on the par-5 holes on the course, with the six 'Jacket golfers combining for 12 birdies on day two on those three holes. For the two days Rochester combined to shoot 13-under on the par fives.
After a week off, Rochester returns to action on October 13-14 for the Carnegie Mellon Tartan Invitational at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, PA.
