LYMAN TENNIS CENTER – Division II Roberts Wesleyan College spoiled the Rochester men's tennis teams' dual match opener with a 6-3 win on Wednesday evening at the Lyman Tennis Center.

Rochester (0-1) held an early 2-1 lead after doubles play concluded, but the Redhawks (8-0) responded by winning five of six singles matches to earn the overall win.

Rochester's singles win came courtesy of senior
Ryan Zu who was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Mathew Cruz at the #6 position.

In doubles, Rochester's #1 team of junior
Andrew Nunno and senior
Sam Leeman were 8-5 winners over Hugo Ball-Greene and Jose Carrillo. At the #3 doubles spot, freshman duo
Yifan Shen and
Tanmay Thakkar were 8-2 winners over Paul Langbroek and Cruz. Roberts got its doubles point with an 8-6 win from Gui Plentz de Liz and Dennis Barlotta who won over
Masaru Fujimaki and
Sahaj Somani.

The visiting Redhawks would then win the first four matches of singles before Zu won his match to earn the clinching point. Carrillo won 6-0, 6-2 over Thakkar at the 5th spot, Ball-Greene won 6-3, 6-2 over Fujimaki at the top spot and Plentz de Liz pulled Roberts within a point of the win with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Shen at #4.

Langbroek then would earn the clinching point at #2, defeating Nunno 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Rounding out the match were Zu's win for UR at #6 and a Barlotta win in three sets over Leeman 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 in the 3rd slot on the ladder.

Rochester gets a few days off before playing at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday through Monday at Hobart College in Geneva, NY.
