The Rochester men's tennis team kicked off the 2017 portion of its schedule in style, shutting out two opponents on Saturday at the Goergen Athletic Center.

The morning match saw the Yellowjackets (2-1) dispatch RIT by a 9-0 score and the afternoon match was more of the same, as UR defeated Nazareth College 9-0.

Junior
Andrew Nunno was a perfect 4-0 in his matches on Saturday, as he won 6-2, 6-3 at #2 singles against RIT and then was a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles against Naz. In doubles, Nunno paired with
Sam Leeman to win 8-2 at #2 doubles against RIT and then moved up to the #1 doubles spot against Nazareth and posted an 8-1 win.

Thakkar won two matches on Saturday.
Four other Yellowjackets picked up three wins on the day. Sophomore
Masaru Fujimaki won both of his matches at #1 singles, only dropping one game in four total sets and then won with teammate
Aaron Mevorach at #1 doubles in the RIT match. Mevorach also had three wins on the day, winning at #1 doubles with Fujimaki against RIT along with a #4 singles win in the RIT match and a #3 singles victory against Nazareth.

Leeman posted three wins as well, going 1-0 in singles, winning 7-5, 6-2 at #3 against RIT while posting the two wins with Nunno in doubles. The final three match winner on Saturday was freshman
Sahaj Somani. Somani won at #5 singles against RIT, winning 6-2, 6-1 and then won two doubles contests. The first came with
Tanmay Thakkar against RIT with the duo winning 8-4 at the #3 spot. Â Against Nazareth, Somani paired with classmate
Yifan Shen to win 8-2 at #2.

Shen went 2-0 on Saturday, winning at #6 in the RIT match, posting a 6-1, 6-0 victory before the doubles win against Nazareth. Thakkar also picked up two victories, coming at #3 doubles in the RIT match and at #5 singles against the Golden Flyers.

Rounding out singles play in the Nazareth match were
Jun Yuminaga and
Ryan Zu winning at #4 and #6 respectively. Yuminaga won 6-0, 6-3 while Zu blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Completing the Nazareth match was
Damani Eubanks and
Mattias Hartveit pairing together for an 8-2 win at #3 doubles.

Rochester returns to action next Saturday when the Yellowjackets host Division I Colgate at the Goergen Athletic Center.
