GOERGEN ATHLETIC CENTER - Rochester won the team point in two doubles matches and claimed a straight-set singles win at #3 against Division I foe Colgate University on Saturday afternoon.
Four of the seven Yellowjackets who played claimed a victory.
Sam Leeman was the singles victor, defeating Bobby Alter, 6-3, 6-3, at #3 singles. It evened the team score at 3-3 (Rochester led, 2-1 after doubles). Colgate picked up a fourth team point when Jacob Daugherty earned a three-set win over
Masaru Fujimaki at #1, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. The Red Raiders sealed the team with at #6 singles, Alec Dardis defeating
Yifan Shen, 6-2, 6-2. Colgate completed the 6-3 final at #5. Win Reynolds downed
Sahaj Somani, 6-4, 6-2.
Rochester jumped ahead, winning the team points at #1 and #3 doubles. At #1,
Aaron Mevorach and Fujimaki defeated Alter and Noah Rosenblat, 8-7 (7-2). Colgate tied the team result at 1-1 after #2 doubles. Reynolds paired with Jake Hirschberg for an 8-6 win over Andy Nunno and Leeman. Rochester went back in front at #3. Somani and
Tanmay Thakkar defeated Dean Koman and Daugherty, 8-6.
The loss evens Rochester's record at 2-2. The Yellowjackets are 2-0 against Division III opposition this year, beating both RIT and Nazareth, 9-0. The losses have come against Division II Roberts Wesleyan (6-3 in September) and Saturday vs. Colgate. The Red Rainders stayed unbeaten (3-0). They play at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon.
Rochester hosts Ithaca on Sunday at 11 am.
