ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – For the second straight day, the University of Rochester men's tennis team was shutout 9-0 by a top-15 ranked team in Division III, falling to #12 Case Western Reserve University on Saturday in the consolation round at the UAA Championships.

The Spartans came out strong in doubles, with Anthony Kanam and David Zakhodin winning at #3 by an 8-0 score over UR's
Tanmay Thakkar and
Ryan Zu. Fred Daum and John Benedetto then won 8-3 at #1 over
Masaru Fujimaki and
Aaron Mevorach. Phillip Gruber and James Fojtasek then completed the sweep with their 8-5 win over
Sam Leeman and
Mattias Hartveit.

In singles, the Yellowjackets were able to force two matches to a tiebreaking third set, but ultimately Case Western Reserve would win all six singles matches for the shutout win. UR's Fujimaki and Thakkar each took a set off their Spartan opponent at #2 and #5 respectively, but would lose the tiebreakers. Fujimaki lost 6-4, 0-6, 10-4 to Siddharth Rajupet while Thakkar dropped a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 decision to Josh Dughi.

The other four matches were straight set wins by CWRU. At #1, Fojtasek won 6-1, 6-4 over Leeman while Rob Stroup won 6-2, 6-1 over
Andrew Nunno. Kevin Dong then won 6-2, 6-3, defeating UR's
Jun Yuminaga while Sam Concannon dispatched
Yifan Shen 6-1, 6-3.

Rochester will play NYU for seventh place at UAA's on Sunday morning at 9 am at Sanlando Park.
