BROCKPORT, NY – Three Rochester sophomores finished second, third, and fourth in the decathlon at the Brockport Multi & Invitational Meet hosted by the College at Brockport on Sunday and Monday.

Alex Opsahl was second overall with 5,711 points, just 237 points behind the champion, Mike Panzarino of Brockport.
Aidan Kropiwnicki was third overall with 5,534 points.
Joseph Varghese was fourth (5,372 points). The competition had seven competitors – three from Rochester, two from Brockport, one from SUNY Geneseo, and one from Roberts Wesleyan.

Opsahl won three events outright: the long jump (6.48 m.), the shot put (11.15 m.), and the high jump (1.82 m.). He was second in the discus throw (29.45 m.) and the pole vault (3.40 m.), third in the 400 meter run (:53.63), third in the 1,500 (4:47.50), and fourth in the 100 m. (:12.06), the 110 hurdles (:17.17), and the javelin throw (37.18 m.).

Kropiwnicki had success in the running events – first in the 100 (:11.66) and the 400 (:52.19), second in the 1,500 (4:47.02). He also won the javelin throw (43.65 m.). He was third in the discus throw (26.99 m.). He finished fourth in the long jump (6.26 m.) and the shot put (9.59 m.), sixth in the high jump (1.73 m.) and the 110 hurdles (:18.46).

Varghese won two events to give the Yellowjackets the victory in eight of the 10 events. He was first in the high jump (1.82 m.) and the discus throw (31.80 m.). He finished second in the javelin throw (37.80 m.), third in the 110 hurdles (:16.63). He was fifth in three events: pole vault (3.10 m.), 400 meters (:55.93), and 1,500 (4:52.21). He cleared 6.18 m. in the long jump (sixth), threw the shot 8.62 m. (sixth), and was seventh in the 100 m. (:12.38).
