PITTSFORD, NY – A third school record fell for the University of Rochester women's track and field team on day two of the All-Atlantic Regional Championships on Thursday afternoon at St. John Fisher College as the Yellowjackets completed a top-5 finish at the event.

Rochester compiled a total 65 points across the two-day meet, finishing in fourth place among 30 teams that scored at least one point. Three local rivals earned the top-3 placements in the team scoring with Geneseo finishing first with 149 points, Ithaca second at 95 and Brockport third with 70.

The Yellowjackets accumulated nine podium finishes on day two, with one school record, two top-25 NCAA performances and one event win.

UR's school record came in the 4x100 meter relay, as the team of Kate Isaac, Michaela Burrell, Kristin Hardy and Madeline O'Connell clocked in third with a time of 48.20 seconds, which cracks the top-25 in NCAA Division III this season.

Michaela Burrell
Burrell had three top-3 results on Thursday.

The quartet tied the school record back on April 23rd and followed that up by setting a new school record each of its next three times out, coming at the Liberty League Championships, Roberts Wesleyan Redhawk Capstone Meet and Atlantic Regionals.

Rochester's event win came from senior Kari Leap in the discus. She scored ten points for the team by placing first with her toss of 38.50 meters.

In addition to running on the record relay team, Burrell capped a terrific meet by finishing in the top-3 in two other individual events. The senior ran a 24.85 second time in the 200 meters, a runner-up result, moving up to #18 in Division III with that time. She also clocked in with a time of 12.34 seconds in the 100 meters, ending in third place.

Rochester also had two other podium finishes in the 100 and 200 meter sprint events. Isaac placed seventh in the 100 meters in 13.09 seconds, while O'Connell was eighth in the 200 meters at 25.57 seconds.

Susan Bansbach finished in fourth place in a tough field in the 400 meters, clocking in at 56.92 seconds. The sophomore also was 14th in the 200 meters (26.01 seconds). Hardy joined Bansbach in scoring for UR in the 400 meters, finishing eighth in 58.27 seconds. Isaac completed her busy day by running 17th in the same race.

Senior Eileen Bequette was the Yellowjackets final scorer on the day, finishing in seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.81 seconds. Bequette also competed in the long jump, ending in 18th with a mark of 5.05 meters.

Joining Bequette in the long jump was Alyssa Hoogs who placed 20th (4.98 meters). Gillian Reeder also competed for UR in the discus, winding up in 13th place overall (34.06 meters).

The regional competition was the final chance for UR athletes to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships coming up next week (May 27-29) in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Based on performances this season, the NCAA will make an announcement on Friday with official qualifiers for the national meet.
