Rochester Teams Compete At RIT Friday Night Invite

HENRIETTA, NY – Rochester's track and field teams are competing as a split squad this weekend, with athletes competing in Boston at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational and at the RIT Friday Night Invite taking place tonight at RIT's Gordon Field House.
 
UR's men and women tallied a total of five All-Atlantic Regional qualifying performances at the RIT meet, all coming in field events. In addition, the Yellowjackets earned a total of ten top-3 performances spanning both genders.
 
Leading the way for UR was Gillian Reeder for the women and Cole Goodman for the men. Both finished in second place in their respective events and qualified for regionals. Reeder's performance came in the weight throw where she tossed 15.28 meters. Goodman earned second in the triple jump and cleared a distance of 13.64 meters.
 
Grace Mueller
Mueller's weight throw mark was a career-best.

Grace Mueller joined Reeder with a AARTFC qualifying mark in the weight throw, tossing a distance of 14.02 meters, a new lifetime best.
 
UR's fourth regional qualifier was Ryan Swavely in the men's weight throw. Swavely placed sixth in a tough field but earned a distance of 15.78 meters.

Closing out the competition, Alyssa Hoogs jumped 5.38 meters in the long jump to be UR's final regional qualifier on the night. 
 
The Yellowjacket men finished the night with three other runner-up finishes. In the 60 meters, James Bentayou crossed in 7.23 seconds. Peter Brodnik ran 8.84 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, good for second. While Brennan Hong cleared 4.25 meters in the pole vault and tied for second place.
 
Rochester's women saw Sabrina Terando place in second as well in the 3000 meters, crossing the finish in 10:57.86.
 
Both Kyle Lane and Frederick Liu earned two top-5 results on Friday night. Lane jumped to fifth place in both the long jump (6.61m) and triple jump (13.06m). Liu on the other hand, was third in the 60 meters (7.26 seconds) and fifth in the high jump (1.75m).
 
Other top finishers for the UR men included the 4x400 meter relay team of Aaden Angelone, Alex Opsahl, Cole Siewert and Jarod Forer who finished in fourth, Skye Crocker who finished fifth in the 800 meters and Vishal Yalamanchili who placed fifth in the 5000 meters.
 
Alicia Lawson and Carissa Minarovich each turned in third place results on the track for the Rochester women. Lawson finished the 5000 meters in 20:07.24, while Minarovich ran the 800 meters in 2:28.99.
 
Joining them with top-5 results were Hoogs in the triple jump (4th, 10.67m) and Lauren Berry in the 200 meters (27.86 seconds).
