GENESEO, N.Y. – The University of Rochester stormed to a runnerup finish at the men's portion of the SUNY Geneseo quad meet over the weekend. The Yellowjackets broke one school record, had five Atlantic Region qualifying results  in running events, and five more in field events.

UR totaled 154 points, enough to edge out Ithaca College for second place (153). Host Geneseo won the meet by capturing 196 points.

The team's depth was evident throughout the meet. Men wearing Rochester colors earned points for top eight performances in eight field events, four of those with multiple scorers. In the running events, Rochester had top eight times in eight events plus the decathlon (three men scored in the top eight).

UR's record breaking performance came in the same event that the women's team broke the mark: the 4x100 meter relay. Rochester's quartet of Mitch Leinert, Gabe Lundy, P.J. London, and Manny Eribo ran a :42.23 to top the record of :42.36 set in 2013 by Eugene O'Hanlon, Max Sims, Jeff Hrebenach, and Anthony Paschke. It is an Atlantic Region qualifier.

Leinert qualified in two other events. He was third in the 100 meters (:11.05) and sixth in the 200 (:22.24). London was eighth in the 200 (:22.55). Daniel Ford was timed in 1:56.37 in the 800, good for a third place finish and an Atlantic qualifier.
James ONeill
O'Neill was top 8 in three events, including the shot put

Lundy was one of two Rochester individual champions. He won the 400 hurdles in :53.36 (Atlantic qualifier) with Peter Brodnik fourth (:56.40) and John Moyer sixth (:59.90). Adam Smith ran a :17.19 to finish fourth in the 110 hurdles.

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Max Hughes was third (10:05.95) and Nate Brunacini was fourth (10:19.47). The 4x400 meter relay was fourth in 3:31.00 (Max Creamer, Colin Hascup, Ford, Christian Voloshen).

Rochester's other individual champion came in the decathlon. Aeden Angelone won the 10-event competition with a total of 6,387 points. That is the ninth-highest point total in Division III currently. Jarod Forer was second with 5,821 points and Cole Siewert scored in eighth place with 4,427 points. On the second day, Forer won the pole vault and was second in the 1,500. Angelone claimed the title with two outright wins (discus throw and javelin throw) plus runnerup finishes in the 110 hurdles and the pole vault. Siewert's top performance Sunday came in the 110 hurdles where he was third.

The Yellowjacket Atlantic qualifiers in the field events came in the hammer throw (Nolan Ragland was fifth, 49.70 m. and Ryan Swavley was sixth, 49.65 m.), in the discus (James O'Neill was sixth 43.03 m. ), in the shot put (O'Neill eighth in 14.03 m.), and in the triple jump (Cole Goodman cleared 13.61 m. for second place).

Kyle Lane (fourth, 13.35 m.) and Sam Lorenzetti was fifth (13.30 m.) in the triple jump behind Goodman. Lane was seventh in the long jump (6.52 m.), narrowly behind Goodman's sixth place jump of 6.59 m.).

Four men scored in the javelin: Zajan Crapo second (48.55 m.), O'Neill third (45.94), Jordan Johnson fifth (43.00 m.), and Joe Bumpus eighth (38.33 m.). Frederik Liu won the high jump, clearing 1.83 m. while James Schmidt was seventh in the pole vault (3.95 m.).
