Women’s Track and Field Split Squad Competes at Geneseo

GENESEO, NY – For the second straight week, individuals from the University of Rochester women's track and field team competed at SUNY Geneseo, competing at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Yellowjackets were also down in Virginia, competing at the William and Mary Colonial Relays, with the rest of the squad staying in upstate New York for the Geneseo competition.
 
Rochester's Geneseo competitors were led by senior Alicia Lawson who secured an All-Atlantic Region qualifying mark in the 5000 meters, crossing the finish in 10th place in 18:43.98. Overall, 47 runners were in the 5K competition.
 
Abby Kopeck scored Rochester's top finish on the day, ranking seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.20 meters.
 
In the field, first-year Katie Atkins ranked 12th among 40 athletes in the javelin, tossing 29.10 meters, with sophomore teammate Victoria Bermeo ending 15th with a new personal-best toss of 27.99 meters.
 
Quinn Taylor and Anna Johnson both ended inside the top-20 in the long jump competition, with Taylor posting a mark of 4.72 meters and Johnson jumping 4.69 meters. Taylor finished 15th among 35 in the field, while Johnson placed 18th.
 
On the track, a large field in the 800 meters saw two UR runners crack the top half of finishers. Julia Lantner was 16th in 2:26.98, while Isabella Doty was 22nd in 2:28.44. Overall, 69 competitors made up the 800 meter field.
 
The Yellowjackets added two more top-20 finishers in both the 100 meter hurdles and high jump.
 
In the hurdles, Julia Largett was 19th in 17.89 seconds, while teammate Julie Durham was 20th in 18.03 seconds. The high jump saw Lily Hubert and Nora Dreslin both clear a 1.38 meter height, with Hubert earning a 18th place finish and Dreslin 20th based on misses during the competition.
 
Up next, Rochester returns home and will host the first of two home competitions at Fauver Stadium  next Friday at the Rochester Spring Twilight.
