GENESEO, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team had two top-10 NCAA Division III performances on Saturday in the SUNY Geneseo Tri-Meet.
Sophomore
Gabe Lundy improved his season-best time in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the finish in 53.98 seconds, moving up to #6 on the NCAA list following his runner-up finish on Saturday. Meanwhile, junior
Ryan Swavely placed first in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.45 meters, jumping to #9 on the Division III performance list this season.
Overall, the meet featured three teams, all of which are ranked in the top-5 in the Atlantic Region rankings this week. Host SUNY Geneseo is number two in the region, while Rochester and Ithaca are fourth and fifth.
In addition to Swavely's win, UR had one other win on the day, coming from
Andres Garcia Coleto in the high jump. The senior cleared 1.92 meters to earn the victory.
Rochester's men also accumulated 11 total top-3 results.
In addition to his 400 meter hurdles finish, Lundy also ran on UR's second place 4x400 meter relay with Garcia Coleto,
Joshua Agyarko Jr., and
Christian Voloshen. The group ran a time of 3:28.96.
Swavely also finished second in the discus event, posting a distance of 38.65 meters.
UR finished 2-3-4 in the 1500 meters.
Daniel Ford led the way in 4:05.03, with teammates
Alec Glazier (4:07.86) and
Nick Gaitanis (4:08.97) battling behind.
Voloshen also ended third in the 800 meters, breaking two minutes, crossing the stripe at 1:59.87. Teammate
Max Hughes was fourth.
Peter Brodnik finished in third place in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.87 seconds, while in the longer, 400 meter distance,
Garrett Dietrich was fourth in 59.13 seconds.
Frederick Liu finished third in the 200 meters (23.73 seconds) and fourth in the long jump (6.32m), displaying his versatility for the Yellowjackets.
Kyle Lane ended in third in the triple jump (13.03m).
Rochester will next send a few athletes to compete at the Brockport Multi-Event meet on Sunday and Monday, with the next full team competition set for next Friday at the RIT Tigers Friday Meet.
