GENESEO, NY – Tough competition awaited the University of Rochester women's track and field team on Saturday, as all three teams entered in the SUNY Geneseo Tri-Meet were ranked in the top-15 in the latest NCAA Division III track and field women's rankings.
Rochester entered at #14 in Division III, while host SUNY Geneseo is #8 in the latest poll. Ithaca College was the third participating team and is the best of the bunch, sitting at #7 nationally.
Overall, UR had nine event wins and 22 top-3 finishes on the day.
Three UR runners were double winners, as
Michaela Burrell,
Kristen Lodato and
Susan Bansbach all won twice.
Burrell captured the 100 meters (12.77 seconds) and 200 meters (25.74 seconds), Lodato won the 1500 meters (4:46.28) and Bansbach captured the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.48). Both Lodato and Bansbach were also on the winning 4x400 meter relay team. Joining the pair for the winning relay were
Kate Isaac and
Lauryn Wilson who helped UR finish the race in 4:13.71.
Lodato's time in the 1500 meters cracked the top-30 in NCAA Division III this season, while UR also saw
Kristin Hardy place 3rd in the 400 meters, with a top-15 NCAA time. Hardy crossed the finish in 58.25 seconds, currently 13th in Division III.
Minarovich won the 800 meters.
Jordan Hurlbut finished first in the 5000 meters in 18:21.38 and also ended runner-up in the 1500 meters. Teammate
Samantha Mauser was second in the 5K, while Ice Sukovaty finished fourth in the 1500.
Elisabeth Rott captured first place in the 3000 meter steeplechase, clocking in with a time of 12:05.27, capping a solid day on the track for the distance runners.
In the 800 meters,
Carissa Minarovich was first (2:30.40), while
Kendra Watson ended second a little over two seconds behind.
Hardy meanwhile finished second in the 200 meters to Burrell, while Isaac earned runner-up honors in the 100 meters.
In the field,
Kari Leap and
Gillian Reeder were Rochester's top competitors. Leap won the discus with a toss of 37.46 meters and finished fifth in both the shot put (10.45m) and hammer throw (41.85m). Reeder meanwhile was second in both the discus (34.09m) and javelin (28.85m) and fourth in the hammer (41.89m).
Iris Chi also placed third for UR in the javelin.
Alyssa Hoogs ended as runner-up in both horizontal jumps. She posted a mark of 10.76 meters in the triple jump and 5.21 meters in the long jump.
Zoe Fortin was fourth in the triple jump with her mark of 10.35 meters.
Rochester's next competition is the Brockport Multi-Event meet set for Sunday and Monday, where select athletes competing in the heptathlon and decathlon will participate. The next full team meet is slated for April 23rd at the RIT Tigers Friday Meet.
