‘Jackets 4x4 Relay Wins AARTFC Title, UR Sits 4th After Day 1

ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester women's track and field team had two scoring performances across four events on day one of the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Indoor Championships hosted at Ithaca College's Glazer Arena on Friday afternoon.
 
Rochester's top highlight was the final event of the evening, with the Yellowjackets 4x400 meter relay earning a win, its second regional title in three seasons. The team of Eva Ciuffetelli, Nora Chen, Raquella Casserino and Megan Bell crossed the finish line in 3:52.03, winning by over half a second on runner-up SUNY Geneseo.
 
The Yellowjackets other scoring performance on Friday came from seniors Cora Rose and Deziree Garrick who capped their indoor seasons in the shot put with third and eighth place results in the shot put. Rose recorded a mark of 12.87 meters and scored six points toward UR's team total, while Garrick ended with a 12.24 meter toss, adding one point on the team scoreboard.
 
After day one of competition, Rochester has 17 team points and sits in a tie for fourth place overall in the team standings. SUNY Geneseo is first with 57 points, followed by Ithaca with 35.83 points. SUNY Brockport is third, while TCNJ is tied with UR for fourth.
 
Rochester had two events with four entries on Friday. Joining Rose and Garrick in the shot put were Madison Vargas and Aimee Oszer. Vargas placed 19th with a toss of 11.42 meters, while Oszer checked in 22nd after recording a mark of 11.14 meters.
 
UR also had four runners in the 5000 meters, with all four securing top-18 finishes. Alicia Lawson established a new personal-best time of 18:29.45 in finishing ninth, just one spot off the podium. Teammate Ella Blau was tenth in 18:33.11. Senior Andie Burton closed out her indoor season with a 13th place run, crossing the finish in 18:39.32, while Riley Joseph ended in 18th (19:11.48).
 
The only other Yellowjacket that competed on Friday was Ashleigh Barrett in the long jump, with the junior placing 12th with a distance of 5.16 meters.
 
On Saturday, the final 11 events of the AARTFC competition take place, beginning at 10 am.
