UR Piles Up Five Wins at Rochester Spring Twilight

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – In its first home meet of the week, the University of Rochester women's track and field team secured five event wins, had four All-Atlantic Region qualifying performances and ended with 14 total top-3 finishes at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
 
Overall, the Yellowjackets claimed wins in both relay events and had Cora Rose, Alyssa Horng and Rita Sciortino earn individual event wins.
 
Rochester's winning relay in the 4x100 meters featured Tina Kyriacou, Maya Hatch, Lizzie Merrill and Emily Salman, with the group running a time of 50.69 seconds. Later in the afternoon, the 4x400 meter relay runners were Hatch, Sciortino, Peyton Classer and Julia Lantner, with that group crossing the finish in 4:11.94.
 
Rose's win came in the shot put, with the senior posting a mark of 12.22 meters. Teammate Deziree Garrick was second after a throw of 12.10 meters, with Rose and Garrick both hitting the regional qualifying standard. Rose would later finished runner-up and hit a regional mark in the discus, posting a toss of 41.52 meters. Additionally, Rose opened the day with a second place result in the hammer throw (45.21 meters).
 
Sciortino's individual win was in the 800 meters. She finished in a regional qualifying time of 2:19.89, leading a 1-2 Yellowjacket finish with first-year teammate Peyton Classer (2:24.22).
 
UR also had another 1-2 finish in the 1500 meters, led by Horng finishing in 4:53.41. Riley Joseph was close behind in second, crossing the finish in 4:54.81.
 
During the 200 meters, Rochester's Merrill and Kyriacou finished second and third, respectively, finishing .01 seconds apart. Merrill clocked in at 13.11 seconds, with Kyriacou crossing the line at 13.12 seconds.
 
Nora Dreslin finished runner-up in the high jump with a 1.43 meter height, while another field performer, Cassidy Romano, wound up third in the javelin at 30.86 meters.
 
Rochester had a slew of other top-4 results on the day as well. In the field, Madison Vargas finished fourth in the shot put (11.59 meters), Gracie Conlan was fourth in the triple jump (10.43 meters), Lily Hubert finished fourth in the high jump (1.38 meters) while Katie Atkins earned the same finish in the javelin (30.43 meters).
 
On the track, Merrill crossed fourth in the 200 meters at 26.87 seconds, with Hatch placing fourth in the 400 meters at 1:01.93.
 
The meet concludes tomorrow with the final three events of the heptathlon, with Rochester hosting another meet later this week, the UR Alumni Invitational, on Saturday.
