Yellowjackets in 1st Place After Day One of Regionals

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Led by a trio of top-three results, the University of Rochester women's track & field team sits in first place out of 27 scoring teams following day one of the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Williams College at the Weston Athletic Complex.
 
With eight of 22 events complete after day one, Rochester sits in first place among the 27 scoring teams with 36 points, three points ahead of second-place Hamilton College, while SUNY Geneseo and Grove City are tied for third place with 24 points apiece.
 
UR's 4x400-meter relay was the Yellowjackets' top finisher on the day, as Eva Ciuffetelli, Maya Hatch, Raquella Casserino and Nora Chen combined for a time of 3:50.45 to finish second in the relay.
 
Rochester also added third-place finishes in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the discus, scoring in four different events to accumulate 36 points after day one.
 
Sab Lin clocked in at 10:59.42 in the steeplechase, setting a new personal best time to finish third overall, and with the 38th-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in NCAA Division III so far this season.
 
While in the discus, Cora Rose notched UR's second third-place result with a 42.22m toss, with Aimee Oszer joining Rose in the top eight with a fourth-place finish and 40.52m throw. Madison Vargas also competed in the discus for the 'Jackets, placing 11th (37.89m).
 
Oszer was also Rochester's lone competitor in the javelin, placing 14th with a 34.39m throw.
 
A trio of Yellowjackets also scored in the 10,000 meters, led by Ella Blau's fourth-place time of 38:20.88. Alicia Lawson finished one spot behind Blau in fifth place, clocking in at 38:27.69, while Alyssa Horng came in seventh with a time of 38:36.58. Andie Burton rounded out the four 'Jackets in the 10,000 meters with a 13th-place finish and 39:47.06 time, with both Burton and Horng setting new PRs.
 
Ellie Ponko was Rochester's top finisher in the 5,000 meters, placing 15th (18:28.74), while Riley Joseph took 20th with a time of 18:46.83.
 
Elsewhere in the field events, Abby Kopeck took UR's top spot in the pole vault, finishing just shy of her personal-best height at 3.44m, good for 10th, and Ashleigh Barrett added another top-10 result to Rochester's tally with a 5.38m long jump to place 10th. Grace McInerney also placed for Rochester in the event, finishing 24th with a 5.01m leap.
 
In the heptathlon, Julia Largett sits in 15th place with 2,116 points through the first four events of the competition. Largett scored her best finishes on day one in the shot put (13th, 7.61m) and 200 meters (13th, 27.99s), and came in 15th in the 100-meter hurdles (16.98s) and 16th in the high jump (1.38m).
 
Largett will get the final day of the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships started for the Yellowjackets on Thursday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. with the heptathlon long jump at the Weston Athletic Complex in Williamstown, MA.
