HENRIETTA, NY – The University of Rochester women's track and field team tied the school record in the 4x100 meter relay, highlighting action at the RIT Friday Meet at RIT's Tiger Stadium.
UR's relay squad of
Kate Isaac,
Michaela Burrell,
Kristin Hardy and
Madeline O'Connell won the event and clocked in with a time of 48.76 seconds, matching the mark set back in 2016 by Brittany Schutrum, Emily VanDenburgh, Cameron Edwards and Yvette Igbokwe.
In addition to UR's record tying performance, the relay now ranks #15 in NCAA Division III this season, one of five top-30 performances from the meet on Friday.
Others include Burrell and
Susan Bansbach in the 400 meters,
Jordan Hurlbut in the 800 meters and
Icel Sukovaty in the 10000 meters.
Burrell finished first in 57.78 seconds, currently #12 in Division III, while Bansbach was runner-up in the event and ranks #25 after a time of 58.42 seconds. In the 800 meters, Hurlbut crossed the finish in 2:16.95, ranking #26 in Division III, winning the event. Sukovaty was runner-up in the 10k, earning a time of 38:13.57, good for #18 so far this season.
Bansbach also captured first place in the 200 meters in 27.33 seconds, capping off a solid day for the sophomore.
Other event wins came from
Grace Messina in the discus (40.33 meters),
Eileen Bequette in the javelin (36.71 meters) and
Alyssa Hoogs in the triple jump (10.91 meters).
Rochester also had a handful of runner-up finishes as well, mostly coming in the field events.
Ashley Heffernan was runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.69 seconds.
Kari Leap was second to Messina in the discus with a toss of 37.66 meters. Hoogs (5.18 meters) was runner-up in the long jump in addition to her triple jump win.
Zoe Fortin finished second to Hoogs in the triple jump with a mark of 10.48 meters, and Bequette placed second in the high jump (1.50 meters).
Other top finishes for the Yellowjackets included a third place result in the 4x400 meter relay from
Madeleine Vogel, Hurlbut,
Kendra Watson and
Lauryn Wilson, O'Connell ending third in the pole vault and Rochester taking third and fourth in both the discus and shot put.
Gillian Reeder and
Vanessa Wish were behind UR's top-2 in the discus, while Messina and
Grace Mueller were the top finishers for UR in the shot put. Messina, Leap and Reeder also finished top-5 in the hammer throw, with Messina leading the way with a mark of 46.80 meters.
On the track,
Ella Wise Bellin ended fourth in the 5000 meters (19:18.83), while Hardy earned the same placement in the 400 meters (59.13 seconds).
Meredith Ackley was also fourth, coming in the 10000 meters.
Samantha Mauser and
Elisabeth Rott finished fourth and fifth in the 1500 meters, respectively.
Kristen Lodato was fifth in the 1500 meters.
