PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Powered by six first-place finishes, 20 top-three results and 16 All-Atlantic Regional (AARTFC) qualifiers, the University of Rochester women's track & field team won the UR Alumni Invitational by nearly 80 points on Saturday at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
The 'Jackets scored in all but four events, two of which they didn't have any entries in. UR accumulates 221 points, with Brockport nearly 80 points behind in second place with 144 points, and SUNY Geneseo rounding out the top-three team finishers in the seven-team field with 105 points.
Alyssa Horng scored Rochester's first, first-place finish in the first event of the day on the track, the 10,000 meters, taking the top-two spots alongside
Andie Burton. Horng and Burton both notched AARTFC qualifying times and set new personal-best times, with Horng crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 39:48.06, while Burton clocked in at 39:53.35.
Next up on the track, Rochester took second and third in the 4x100-meter relay.
Tina Kyriacou,
Maya Hatch,
Lizzie Merrill and
Raquella Casserino combined for UR's top time, 49.92 seconds, another AARTFC qualifier, while
Abby Kopeck,
Julia Largett,
Julie Durham and
Grace McInerney combined for a 51.84-second time to finish third.
The Yellowjackets would add four more first-place tallies in the track events, the next of which came in the 400 meters. Rochester took the top four spots in the event, with
Megan Bell leading the way with a first-place time of 55.22 seconds, her second-best time of the outdoor campaign and the second-best time in Division III this season, behind only her own.
Nora Chen finished second with the 39th-best mark in DIII so far this season in the 400 meters, 56.95 seconds, while Casserino took third (58.04s) and
Eva Ciuffetelli (58.50s) finished four. All four runners earned All-Atlantic Region qualifying marks, while Casserino and Ciuffetelli both set new PRs.
Peyton Classer also scored for Rochester in the 400 meters, joining the foursome in the top eight with an eighth-place finish and season-best time of 1:01.99 seconds.
Maya Hatch then scored an event win in the 100 meters, setting a new PR with her 12.85-second time. Kyriacou came in right behind Hatch in second place at 13.12 seconds, while
Toni Adewakun made it three Yellowjackets in the top four with a fourth-place finish and 13.51-second time.
Deziree Garrick scored the 'Jackets lone event win in the field events, finishing first in the shot put with a 12.72m toss, an AARTFC qualifier and new personal-best throw. Garrick's shot put was 0.04m off the school record, while
Cora Rose took third with a 12.13m throw, another AARTFC qualifier.
In the 200 meters,
Nora Chen took home the top spot for Rochester's fifth first-place finish of the day, notching her second regional-qualifying time with a 25.66-second 200 meters. Casserino took second in the event, crossing the finish line in 26.08 seconds, while Bell came in fourth at 26.29 seconds.
Rochester's last event win of the day came in the 5,000 meters, where
Riley Joseph finished first with a time of 18:33.83, a new PR and another AARTFC mark.
The 'Jackets' 4x400-meter relay team of Classer,
Rita Sciortino, Hatch and
Emily Dill then wrapped up the day's track events with a third-place finish in the relay, clocking in at 4:06.54, another regional qualifier.
Earlier in the day,
Isabella Doty was Rochester's top finisher in the 1,500 meters, finishing 31st with a time of 5:26.31, while
Zoe Noble led the 'Jackets in the 100-meter hurdles with a 12th-place finish and 18.12-second time.
In the 800 meters, Rochester landed three top-five results, with Dill placing third (2:19.84), Sciortino taking fourth (2:21.58) and
Maria Khalifeh scoring a fifth-place result (2:23.09). Khalifeh's time tied a season-best mark, while Dill's time was good enough to earn AARTFC qualifier status.
Abby Kopeck was Rochester's top finisher in the pole vault, finishing eighth with a 3.36m height, a new PR and an AARTFC qualifier, while in the high jump, UR saw three Yellowjackets scoring, placing in the top eight.
Nora Dreslin had the 'Jackets' top height of 1.43m, good for a third-place finish, while
Lily Hubert came in fifth at 1.38m, and
Sadie Omilian made it over 1.33m to finish seventh.
Rochester had three scorers in both horizontal jumping events, with
Gracie Conlan leading UR in the triple jump and
Ashleigh Barrett in the long jump. Conlan's 10.19m triple jump was good for sixth, while Barrett took seventh in the triple jump with a 10.04m leap, and
Quinn Taylor finished eighth with a new personal-best leap of 9.81m.
In the long jump, Barrett tied her personal best and hit the AARTFC qualifying mark with a 5.53m jump, while McInerney hit a season-best mark with a 5.31m leap and
Anna Johnson hit a new PR with a 5.25m jump. Barrett finished third in the event, while McInerney took home fourth place and Johnson finished sixth.
Aimee Oszer was Rochester's top thrower in both the discus and javelin, setting a new personal-best throw in the discus with a 41.27m toss, good for third and an AARTFC qualifier. Two spots behind Oszer, Rose finished fifth with a 40.80m throw, and
Madison Vargas finished sixth at 39.51m.
In the javelin, Oszer's 33.35m toss was good for second, with
Katie Atkins (5th, 30.79m) and
Cassidy Romano (8th, 27.50m) also earning top-eight results.
Rochester added three more scorers in the hammer throw, with
Zoe Chafouleas leading the trio with a sixth-place result and 43.95m throw, while
Liv Ilasz took seventh (43.68m) and Rose finished eighth (42.84m).
Elsewhere on the day, Kelley Foley `23 was the top female finisher in the UR Alumni Mile, placing fifth (5:36.31), while a quartet of former track & field alums:
Madeline O'Connell,
Susan Bansbach, Gabe Lundy and Luke Lyons took the top spot in the UR Organizations 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.92 seconds.
Rochester next competes at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic in their final tune-up before the Liberty League Outdoor Championships on Saturday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. in Pittsford, NY.
