PITTSFORD, NY – In their final meet before the 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the University of Rochester women's track and field team notched six All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field (AARTFC) qualifiers and set several new personal-best times at St. John Fisher University's Cardinal Classic on Saturday at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex.
Sab Lin headlined the Yellowjackets' performance on the day with a first-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Lin clocked in at 11:05.22 seconds, an AARTFC qualifier and a new personal-best time, as well as the 26th-fastest steeplechase time in NCAA Division III this season.
Rochester added another event win on the track in the 400-meter hurdles, where
Nora Chen and
Eva Ciuffetelli took the top-two spots. Chen ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.26 seconds, while Ciuffetelli crossed the finish line in 1:03.38 seconds, both notching AARTFC qualifiers in the process.
Earlier on in the day, Chen also ran in the 100-meter prelims, finishing seventh with a new, personal-best time of 12.64 seconds to qualify for a spot in the final.
The Yellowjackets began their day on the track with the 4x100-meter relay, with
Tina Kyriacou,
Maya Hatch,
Lizzie Merrill and
Raquella Casserino finishing in 50.26 seconds, good for fifth place in the 16-team field.
Lin then got Rochester started in the individual events on the track, with
Rita Sciortino and
Emily Dill notching back-to-back PRs in the 200 and 400 meters. Sciortino was UR's top finisher in the 200 meters, setting a new PR with her 27.83-second time, good for 31st, while Dill finished sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.43 seconds, also a new PR. Sciortino joined Dill in the top 10 of the 400-meters, placing ninth with a time of 1:01.77 seconds.
Maria Khalifeh paced the Yellowjackets in the 800 meters, finishing 11th (2:23.26), while both
Ellie Ponko and
Riley Joseph turned in top-12 results in the 1,500 meters, finishing 8th (4:51.31) and 11th (4:56.11), respectively.
In the 100-meter hurdles,
Julie Durham took the top spot for Rochester with a 24th-place finish and 18.06-second time, while
Adriana Ochoa rounded out the 'Jackets' day on the track with a season-best result in the 5,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 27th place with a time of 20:06.86.
Cora Rose was UR's top finisher in three of the four throwing events, with the senior's best finish coming in the discus. Rose took second in the discus with a 40.70m toss, an AARTFC qualifier, while
Madison Vargas placed seventh (36.98m) and
Aimee Oszer took 10th (35.73m).
In the shot put, Rose finished sixth with a 11.43m throw, while Vargas placed 11th (11.02m) and
Deziree Garrick finished 13th (10.94m). While in the hammer throw, Rose set a new PR with her 46.81m throw to finish seventh, another AARTFC qualifier, while
Zoe Chafouleas finished 13th (42.10m).
Oszer led Rochester in the javelin throw, finishing seventh with a 32.87m throw, with
Katie Atkins (11th, 28.62m) and
Cassidy Romano (12th, 28.30m) joining the sophomore in the top-12 finishers.
In the jumping events,
Nora Dreslin tied for fifth in the high jump, setting a new personal-best height of 1.49m. While in the pole vault,
Abby Kopeck hit a regional-qualifying mark with a height of 3.45m, good for seventh, and
Ashleigh Barrett placed ninth in the long jump with a 5.42m leap.
Megan Bell will wrap up the weekend for the Yellowjackets, competing in the 800 meters at the University of Virginia's High Performance Meet on Sunday, April 27 at 5:55 p.m. While Rochester next will make the short trip to Henrietta, NY for the 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, beginning on Friday, May 2 at 12:00 p.m.
