PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – The Rochester men's track and field team piled up five event wins and had eight All-Atlantic Regional qualifying performers at the annual University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on Saturday at Fauver Stadium and the GLC Throws Complex.
The Yellowjackets ended up in a close race for the team scoring title, ending in third of 14 teams, scoring 136 points across the 20 events contested. SUNY Geneseo earned the team title with 137.5 points, edging out SUNY Brockport who was runner up with 137 points. RIT finished a distant fourth with 86 points.
Rochester's five wins came from
Peter Brodnik in the 110 meter hurdles,
Gabe Lundy in the 400 meters,
P.J. London in the 100 meters,
Scott Sikorski in the 800 meters and
Cole Goodman in the triple jump.
Sikorski's win is currently a top-ten time in NCAA Division III this season, ranking ninth. He ran a time of 1:51.10. Goodman joined the party with a top-30 mark, ranking 28th after his 14.15 meter jump earned the event win.
London sprinted to the 100 meter title.
Brodnik crossed the finish in 15.50 seconds while Lundy earned his win in 49.31 seconds, just edging out teammate Mitchell Lienert who clocked in with a time of 49.77 seconds. All three of those times were regional qualifiers.
London's time of 11.12 seconds earned the event win in the shortest race of the day, and just missed the regional qualifying mark.
Thrower
James O'Neill had two regional qualifiers, placing eighth in both the discus and shot put. His discus mark was 41.33 meters and the shot put distance was 14.03 meters.
UR's final Atlantic qualifier of the day was
Daniel Ford in the 800 meters. He ended third in 1:55.77.
Lundy, London and Brodnik all scored for the Yellowjackets in the 200 meters in addition to their victories. Lundy was runner-up in 22.49 seconds, London placed fifth in 22.89 seconds and Brodnik wound up eighth (23.15 seconds).
Rochester also had three top-8 finishers in the long jump and javelin.
Zajans Crapo led the javelin trio with a runner-up placement after a toss of 46.18 meters.
Jordan Johnson was third with his distance of 44.67 meters and
Dylan Rykert placed eighth (40.53 meters).
In the long jump,
Frederick Liu led the Yellowjacket scorers, placing third with a leap of 6.63 meters.
Kyle Lane jumped 6.56 meters and was fifth, while Goodman ended seventh with his mark of 6.49 meters.
UR's 4x400 meter relay team of
Christian Voloshen, Sikorski,
Colin Hascup and Ford placed second in 3:26.08, scoring eight team points for the Yellowjackets. Earlier in the day, the 4x100 meter relay team of jumpers
Nick Donnell,
Sam Lorenzetti, Lane and Goodman were fourth in 44.26 seconds.
Other scorers on the day were
Max Hughes (5th) and
Nate Brunacini (6th) in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Noland Ragland (6th) and
Ryan Swavely (8th) in the hammer throw. Liu (100 meters),
James Schmidt (pole vault) and
Griffin Weiner (5000 meters) all ended in seventh place, each adding points to the team total.
Rochester's next event is the Liberty League Championships taking place next Friday and Saturday at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.
