UR Women Notch Five Event Wins, 11 AARTFC Marks at Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester women's track & field program turned in a stellar performance on the secondary day of the Brockport Multi & Invitational on Saturday inside Brockport's Special Events and Recreation Center, winning five events, totaling 15 top-three finishes and 11 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championship (AARTFC) qualifying times.
 
Rochester took home event wins in the 60-meter hurdles, 400 and 1,000 meters, the 4x400-meter relay and the shot put. On the track, Megan Bell scored the Yellowjackets' first event-win of the day in the 400 meters, setting the standard in NCAA Division III with a time of 55.68, currently the top mark on the DIII Indoor Qualifying List.
 
Bell's time also set both a meet and facility record and was a new personal best as well as a regional qualifier. Eva Ciuffetelli and Peyton Classer joined Bell in the top 10 of the 400 meters, with Ciuffetelli placing fourth with a time of 1:00.24, another AARTFC qualifier, while Classer came in ninth (1:02.18).
 
After winning the first heat and placing second in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, Nora Chen won the 60-meter hurdle finals for UR's second first-place result of the day. Chen hit AARTFC marks in both the prelims and finals, finishing second with a time of 9.48 seconds in the prelims, before winning the event final with a 9.32-second time.
 
Individually, Rochester added another event win on the track in the 1,000 meters, where Emily Dill crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 3:12.68, a new personal best, before UR's 4x400-meter relay turned in another stellar performance.
 
The 'Jackets placed three relay teams in the top five of the 4x400-meter relay, with Ciuffetelli, Chen, Raquella Casserino and Bell combining for a first-place time of 3:53.51, an AARTFC qualifier, a new meet and facility record and the third-fastest time in Division III this season.
 
Classer, Maya Hatch, Dill and Rita Sciortino finished in second place in the relay with a time of 4:14.55, while Abby Kopeck, Julia Lantner, Lizzie Merrill and Emily Salman combined for a fifth-place time of 4:25.29.
 
Deziree Garrick scored Rochester's lone event win in the field events with a first-place finish in the shot put, hitting a regional qualifier with a 12.33m toss. Cora Rose, Madison Vargas and Aimee Oszer all joined Garrick in the top 10 of the shot put, with Rose placing third with an 11.70m throw, Vargas taking fifth with a 11.56m toss and Oszer notching a 10th-place finish with a 10.33m throw.
 
Garrick was also UR's top finisher in the weight throw, where Garrick, Liv Ilasz and Rose all notched regional-qualifying marks with their throws. Garrick's 15.72m throw was good for second place and currently ranks 40th on the NCAA Division III Indoor Performance List, while Ilasz finished fifth with a new PR of 14.01m, while Rose earned a seventh-place result with a 14.01m toss.
 
Elsewhere in the field events, Gracie Conlan (7th, 10.02m) and Ashleigh Barrett (8th, 9.96m) earned top-10 results in the triple jump, while Barrett was also UR's top finisher in the long jump, with a 10th-place finish and 4.97m leap.
 
In the high jump, Lily Hubert led the 'Jackets, finishing 15th by surpassing the 1.34m bar, while Kopeck placed 11th in the pole vault with a 3.15m height.
 
Tina Kyriacou earned a spot in the 60-meter finals with a fourth-place finish and heat win in the prelims, clocking in at 8.31 seconds in the prelims before crossing the finish line in 8.33 seconds in the finals to place fifth.
 
Rochester placed three runners in the top four of the mile, led by Maria Khalifeh's second-place finish and time of 5:19.31, a regional qualifier. Ellie Ponko finished second, hitting a new personal-best time of 5:21.42, while Sab Lin placed fourth with a time of 5:31.09.
 
Khalifeh also turned in a top-three result in the 800 meters, finishing third with a time of 2:25.67. Sciortino was UR's top finisher in the event, notching an AARTFC qualifier with a second-place time of 2:22.69, while Lantner rounded out three Yellowjackets in the top five with a fifth-place result, crossing the finish line in 2:27.31.
 
In the 200 meters, Merrill and Casserino both notched top-10 finishes, with Merrill coming in sixth (27.230) and Casserino placing seventh (27.33).
 
UR's distance runners wrapped up the day with a stellar performance in the 3,000 meters, as the 'Jackets saw five runners place in the top seven, all of whom set new personal-best times. Alicia Lawson took UR's top spot, placing second with a time of 10:45.71, while Alyssa Horng finished second (10:48.87) and Ella Blau rounded out the top four with a fourth-place finish and time of 10:51.69.
 
Andie Burton came in sixth in the 3,000 meters, clocking in at 10:54.80, while Riley Joseph made it five 'Jackets in the top seven with a seventh-place finish and time of 10:57.64.
